The promptness of updating the training content of a future IT professional does not always correspond to the frequency of innovations in the field of modern digital technologies. The digital transformation of the economy requires changes in the approaches to the training of qualified personnel in the IT field. The article examines the specifics of the process of a future IT professional’s training in the context of the digital transformation of the economy. Two groups of competencies are distinguished, the stages of preparing students for professional activity are discussed. The conclusion is made that forming both hard and soft skills are equally important for a future IT professional.
