Famous Ukrainian “nocturnes” in Pushkin’s poem “Poltava” and Gogol’s story “A May Night” are connected as a question and an answer. Though in fact Pushkin possessed solid knowledge of Ukrainian history and forwarded Gogol on creation “true” historic fiction.
