The study of the literature and culture of the native land is becoming relevant in the modern education system. In this regard, the programs of school literary education are being updated due to the introduction of local history and regionally significant topics. The study summarizes the methodological experience of conducting a lesson for secondary school students in the city of Kirov on the work of E. I. Kostrov, a native of the Vyatka region. The moral potential of Kostrov's poetry is revealed, recommendations are proposed for the analysis of individual works of the poet, in which such “eternal” values as love for the Fatherland, service to people, willingness to help those in need, adherence to the ideals of goodness and light are affirmed.
