Object of the article: the poem “Poetry” by N.M. Karamzin. Subject of the article: meaning of “the text within a text” in Karamzin's “Poetry”. Purpose of research: to show that “a text within a text” structure in Karamzin's poem is based on “false quotations” i.e. when the “author's” text is presented in the form of ”another author's text” (quotation). Research methods: methods of comparative and structural-semantic analysis applied. Results: the author argues that the author (Karamzin) is hiding behind literary masks of Shakespeare and Klopstock. Field of application: literary studies. Conclusion: the structure of Karamzin's “Poetry” is based on the interaction between the “author's text” and the texts of the other authors.
