The article discusses the ways of mastering professionally-oriented vocabulary by cadets of educational institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the study of the discipline «Foreign language». The author of the article explains the need for future employees of the penitentiary system to study specialized vocabulary, offers effective methods for the formation of the lexical competence of students of non-linguistic universities.
