A method for physiological and biochemical real time characterization of intact cells in vitro was developed and used for express identification of microorganisms. The method provided differentiation of bacteria at the level of closely related groups and has a significant potential in cell biology. A concept of multi-channel transducer able to accelerate characterization of cells is discussed.
