This article follows the remarkable religious, political, and intellectual career of Castile's most important churchman of the thirteenth century, Archbishop Rodrigo Jimenz de Rada. The principal focus of the work is the archbishop’s greatest historical work, De rebus Hispanie , and its core chapters which are composed of a first-hand account by the archbishop of one of the greatest battles of the Spanish Reconquest, Las Navas de Tolosa (July 16, 1212).
