Kidney disease is comprised of changes in kidney function that is maintained for avarying period, defined in two ways: acute kidney failure (AKF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD),both depending on the development of the disease. The objective of this study is to identify whetherthere is a difference in the nutritional status between AKF and CKD between the genders andage groups of hospitalized patients and the prevalence of other diseases associated with kidneydisease. Methods: Prospective observational study. We selected 33 patients admitted to a hospitalin Guarapuava, Paraná. The collected information was anthropometric assessment, 24-hour foodrecall, clinical and nutritional diagnosis. The results were evaluated by descriptive and inferentialanalysis. Results: The mean age was 61.0 ± 17.4 years, with the majority being female (54.5%;n = 18) and elderly (66.6%; n = 21), regarding the classification of nutritional status, most wereeutrophic (57.6%) and 42.4% and 51.5% were malnourished by the circumference of the arm andthe tricipital skin fold, respectively. As for the personal history investigated, no statistically significantdifferences were found, with a statistical tendency for patients with a clinical diagnosis of CKDto have arterial hypertension. Conclusion: Even though the majority of the studied populationhad an adequate nutritional status, there was also a tendency towards malnutrition due to otherparameters of anthropometric assessment.
