The subject of the study is the linguistic representations of the emotional state of surprise in English and Russian. The frame “surprise” is reconstructed on the material of lexicographic sources. The main parameters characterizing the emotion of surprise made it possible to distinguish nuclear (predicate, subject, cause) and optional semantic components (intensity, evaluation, external manifestation and behavior of the subject) in the structure of this frame. As a result of the comparative analysis, universal and national-cultural features of English and Russian lexical units with an emotive sense of surprise are revealed.
