A new control system for density and level in a mill drain sump is proposed, where, as an alternative to PID controllers, the approach of multivariable and adaptive control with a predictive model (MPC) is applied. An example of synthesis of the MPC controller and the adaptive MPC using the Matlab software package is presented. Transient processes through the control and disturbance channels are obtained for the five considered control strategies, selected with a glance at the existing world practices. Based on the results of computational experiments, an analysis was carried out, on the basis of which the strategy with multivariable adaptive MPC showed the best quality of regulation. Conclusions are made about the reasonability of using the proposed approaches to stabilize the density and level instead of traditional PID controllers.
