This article is based on the biographies of fascinating women who did not receive objective monographs, though they fully deserved it. Although the path of their education and career went in different directions, after the outbreak of World War II they undertook many daring and dangerous activities to save their homeland. I write about people I met personally, as an adolescent, after the war. They were talented, courageous, selfless and overly patriotic women. My interest in the fate of the pre-war generation incited me to devote my whole refugee life to researching the history of my homeland, to which I never returned.
