Background. The antibacterial activity of pyrithione zinc against S. aureus in therapy of atopic dermatitis was studied.Methods. Pyrithione zinc cream (0,2%) was used topically during 21 days in 1 to 13-years old patients with slight atopic dermatitis two times daily, and with lichenoid atopic dermatitis once a day. Pyrithione zinc aerosol (0,2%) was used in patients with eczematization or oedema two times daily. Results and conclusion. The clinical efficacy of pyrithione zinc was observed. S. aureus density on the patient's skin as well as the expression of coccal virulence factors were decreased.
