In the hierarchy of values of modern society, the first place is given to the rights and freedoms of the individual, which include the phenomena of honor and dignity. Like any value, they need reliable protection from illegal encroachments. The article raises the question of the effectiveness of the mechanism of state and legal protection of the honor and dignity of the individual existing in the Russian Federation. The author reveals the concept of protecting the honor and dignity of an individual, analyzes the existing system of its state and legal support in Russia. It is noted that in the process of implementing legal norms in practice, its shortcomings are clearly manifested. Some problems existing in the sphere of state provision of protection of honor and dignity of the individual are raised, ways of their solution are outlined.
