The article analyzes the phenomenon of unlawful act in terms of its etymology and various approaches to its semantic meaning. The author identifies several groups of interpretation of the meaning of the concept “unlawful act”, which consider this category from different sides. A distinction is made between an unlawful act and similar words, such as “offense”, “illegal act”, “illegal behavior”, “unauthorized behavior”, etc. The author offers his own definition of the concept of “unlawful act”, which considers it as a legal fact.
