The article describes the role women’s organizations in Ecuador in the 90’s in relation to the indigenous and mestizo cultures. Last decade of the 20th century saw a tremendous rise of the number of women organisations. The women organisations can be of various types: informal, religious, government, NGO’s and indigenous. This also relates to different background that women organization activists have – they can come from different classes, have different education and different identities. All this relates with diversity of their actions, functions and aims.
