The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effects of different pit and fissure sealants,namely ClinPro Sealant(3MESPE) and Helioseal-F (Ivoclar Vivadent) on the Streptococcus mutans count in the saliva of children. Fourty (40) caries freechildrenintheagegroupof6-12yearswitheruptedpermanentmolarswereselectedandfollowingcompleteoralprophylaxisthe materials were applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Saliva samples were collected prior to application,immediately after application, one month after application, three months after application and six months after application.ThesesampleswereculturedonMitis salivariusplatesandcolonycountsofStreptococcusmutanswererecorded.ReductioninStreptococcusmutans countover theperiodof studywasobservedinallthecases andtheeffectivenessofthesepit andfissuresealantswerecomparable.Boththepit andfissuresealants -ClinProSealant(3MESPE) andHelioseal-F(IvoclarVivadent)- areequallyeffectiveinreducingthesalivaryStreptococcusmutansinchildrenandpreventingthecaries.
