The aim of the study is to assess the current state of agricultural insurance with state support as one of the components of the development mechanism of the agricultural sector and determine the vectors of its development. It is concluded that such insurance has not yet become a financial tool to minimize economic risks for most farmers. According to the results of the study, the main sources, causes and risk factors for reducing the stability of the agricultural insurance system were identified; the results of changes in the relevant legislation on agricultural insurance are evaluated; a set of measures has been formulated to transform the current agricultural risk insurance system aimed at developing and improving the efficiency of this sector of the insurance market of the Russian Federation.
