Widespread adoption of electric vehicles will relieveus from problems such as environmental pollution, globalwarming and oil dependency. However, theusage of EV isrelatively low in spite of many governments implementing strongpromotion policies. This paper presents a understandable reviewof studies on consumer preferences for EV, aiming to betterinform policy-makers and give direction to further research. First,we compare the psychological and economic approach towardsthis topic, followed by a conceptual work of EV preferences whichis then implemented to organise our review. We also consider themodelling techniques applied in the selected studies. Estimates ofconsumer preferences for financial, technical, infrastructure andpolicy attributes are then considered. A categorisation of mainfactors for consumer preferences into groups such associo-economic variables, psychological factors, mobilitycondition, social influence, etc. is then made and their impacts arebriefly explained. Finally, we discuss a research agenda toimprove EV consumer preference studies and give suggestions forfurther research.
