The aim of the article is presentation of the general concept of rationality reconstructed and developed by Raymond Boudon. The starting point is a statement that contemporary sociology is in a state of crisis, and that it lacks an unambiguous statement of its aims and the methods required to reach them. Then the author exposes the essential assumptions and categories of the general theory of rationality, which is a response to the crisis.
