This work analyzes, witha comparative focus, therepresentations of the femininebody in literary texts bywomen in which this bodyappears as an effective locus ofresistance and transgression. In this sense, this body canbe conceived as a discursiveentity and a cultural metaphor, marked by gender, ethnic, sexuality and class issues. The works by women authorsanalyzed here rewrite thetraditional and idealized versionof a political body and revealthe power of the feminine bodyas a politically inscribed entityand, therefore, as a space ofindividual determination andsubversion.
