An urgent problem is getting modern teenagers involved in sports activities, in particular, martial arts, due to a decrease in the motivation of children aged 10-12 years at the stage of initial sports training. Studying the motivation of adolescent athletes at the initial stage of training will outline an effective way to solve the problem. The purpose of the research: to study and analyze the complex motivation of athletes aged 10-12 years in the martial arts sections at the initial stage of sports training. Research methods: pedagogical observation, questioning and conversation, methods of psychodiagnostics: the method "Motivation to attend sports classes" by L.G. Orlova, the method "Assessment of the level of sports motivation of schoolchildren" by N. G. Luskanova. The results of diagnostics of motivation of athletes engaged in martial arts (karate-do, judo) are presented. The article discusses the results of diagnostics of complex motivation and offers recommendations for improving the quality of the training process.
