This article is devoted to the analysis of extralinguistic specificity in the framework of pre-translation analysis of the text when translating from German into Russian. The article substantiates the importance of taking into account pragmatic aspects to achieve the adequacy of translation, identifies the most significant pre-informational levels (geographical, historical, political, religious, economic, cultural) that make up the linguo-ethnic barrier. Overcoming this barrier involves major translation difficulties. Examples from different functional styles verify these levels.
