The article presents the results of the comparative analysis of the use of inversion as an expressive syntactic construction in the Russian, Chuvash and English fiction. The scope of the concept of "inversion" is revealed. The functions of inversion are determined. The author analyzes the word order in the affirmative sentence in the reviewed languages. It is noted that the word order in an affirmative sentence in the Russian and Chuvash languages can be called relatively free, while in English the word order in a sentence is fixed and its changes can lead to a change in the meaning of the sentence. It is stated that inversion is typical for all three considered languages. The types of inversion are analyzed. Some features and differences of types of inversion in structurally different languages are revealed. The syntactic inversion is reviewed as an effective means of creating vivid, emotional pictures in fiction and focusing the reader’s attention on definite parts of the sentence in accordance with the intentions of the writer.
