The article deals with the features of the postmodern image of a family as a social institution, the life of the characters, and their perception of the world. Considering the cultural level of the characters and their relationships, their understanding of such values as family and love, the author comes to the conclusion that L. Petrushevskaya tried to describe the crisis of a family. The characters, forced to stay in the same space, are separated, and alone; each of them has their own perception of love. At the same time, all three heroes of the play “Love” and the characters-relatives of the story “The time is the night” want to love and be loved. However, no one is ready to loose for the sake of love and platonic and kinship closeness. Consequently, the Russian writer revealed the term of “love” from the domestic side, showing the dependence of the feeling and its psychology. While, according to Petrushevskaya, at the heart of family relations is not always that feeling of love which corresponds to traditional ideas and associations.
