Results of experimental/commercial operation of a pilot plant, adjustment commissioning of the Tunguska water intake for non-standard groundwater in Khabarovsk with the use of drinking water treatment in an aquifer are presented. Groundwater is characterized by the high iron content (up to 30 mg/dm3) and manganese (up to 3 mg/dm3) against рН low values (5.9–6.1) and a high content of dissolved carbon dioxide (up to 250 mg/dm3). Waste- free technique of non-standard groundwater treatment in aquifer for drinking is widely applied in the Western Europe countries. A pilot plant at the Tunguska water intake operated from 2007 to 2011. The outcomes shown that the water was purified in terms of iron during one week, while it took more than a year to get norm results in terms of manganese. Completed detailed design of water intake with in situ cleaning capacity of 106 thousand m3/day, the construction of which is ongoing. Stable purifying of water in terms of iron and manganese to the concentrations not exceeding MPC has been achieved without the agents’ use and sophisticated facilities construction. Such a technique has a lot of economic and ecological advantages in comparison with traditional water treatment technique.
