The rice crop commodity is a basic need for the most Indonesian people, including the people of the province of South Sumatra. However, the total production in 2018-2020 fluctuated in line with the fluctuating rice harvested area. This research is to map the regencies/cities in South Sumatra province that are superior, potential and developing and lagging behind in producing rice commodities. The analysis in this study uses Location Quotient (LQ), Shift Share (SS) and Klasssen's Typology. The results of the analysis obtained 4 districts, namely Ogan Komering Ilir, Lahat, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur and Empat Lawang districts, both comparative and competitive advantages. Muara Enim, Banyuasin, Ogan Ilir, Musi Rawas Utara regencies and the city of Palembang are  potential districts  to produce rice commodities.  The districts of Ogan Komering Ulu, Musi Rawas, Ogan Komering Ulu  Selatan, Pali and the cities of Pagar Alam and Lubuk Linggau are districts/cities that actually have a competitive advantage for rice commodities, but do not have a comparative advantage and finally Musi Banyuasin district and Prabumulih city are supporting districts/cities.
