This paper presents the numerical comparison in ANSYSMaxwell between nanocrystalline, Vitroperm 500F, andferrite, 3C90, cores to be used in power electronicconverters (PECs) transformers. The converter topologyused is the doubled switch Forward, due to itscharacteristics and its power range (<500W). Thetransformer model development, the characterization andthe BH measure curves from the material, as well as itsvalidation and the excitation type implemented in thenumerical model are described in the methodology. Theexposed results show an improvement in comparasionwith the ferrite, in addition to a better flexibility in themagnetic design methodology, given by thenanocrystalline magnetic characteristics.
