The article “Iranian involvement in the Syrian conflict” begins with an overview of Iran-Syria relations and the reasons for the Iranian support for the Syrian regime at the outset of the conflict and onwards. A detailed description is made of the common interests defining the lasting military-political, economic and security cooperation between the two countries. Subsequently, there is an analysis of the nature and scope of the Iranian involvement in Syria and its regional and internal implications. Finally, the article outlines the role of Iran in post-conflict Syria and the possible stance of its opponents and allies on Iranian intentions to sustain its presence and influence in the country.
