The paper presents the concept and preliminary results of numerical study ofchanges in the rail track dynamic characteristics. Change of the characteristics is introduced inorder to reduce noise emissions. The theoretical relationship between the studied trackdynamic characteristics (TDR - Track Decay Rate) and noise was briefly explained, and thenthe methodology of FEM modelling for the standard test simulation was described. Four massmodification variants and two rail types (49E1 and 60E1 profiles) were analyzed. Numericalstudy show correlation between the railroad track mass increase and its dynamiccharacteristics and thus the noise emission. It turns out that the obtained effect may causereduction of noise emission in some frequencies, and increase in others.
