Abdominal sepsis (AS) is one of the mostsevere complications in abdominal surgery.Mortality from the AS according to variousdata can reach up to 80–90% depending onthe etiology, peculiarities of pathogenesisand comorbidities. Purpose of the study is todetermine the current state of the problemof abdominal sepsis, to identify problemsand discussion issues and to outline possibleperspectives for their solution. AS remainsone of the important problems of modern urgentabdominal surgery, and ii is characterizedby a large variety of etiological factors andpolymorphism of the clinical picture. Changingthe paradigm of sepsis (Sepsis-1, 2, 3) requirescorrection of treatment-diagnostic approaches inpatients with acute abdominal surgery. Existingmethods of diagnosing and treating abdominalsepsis are not effective enough, and thereforethere is a need to improve them and develop new,adequate therapeutic approaches.Keywords: abdominal sepsis, sepsis-3, reviewof literature, etiology, pathogenesis, treatment.
