Competency approach to Russian education has become the leading trend of its modernisation. It allows combining professionalism of a pedagogue with its personal self-improvement. However formation of key subject competences of "Orthodox Culture" teachers have their own specifics caused by the general historical situation (hybrid war of civilisation antagonists), on the one hand, which requires solving the problem of spiritual and moral upbringing on the basis of traditional values of the Russian society. On the other hand, it is caused by readiness of these values and by the level of their adequate perception by pedagogues themselves. The author analyses the results of the survey conducted in 2009–2018 among "Orthodox Culture" teachers and makes a conclusion about the eclecticism of their worldview choice, and also considers it important to change the nature of their preparation for the spiritual and moral upbringing of schoolchildren based on the values of Orthodox culture.
