The novel "The Devil's Elixirs" by E. T. A. Hoffmann is considered in this article as one of possible references of the myth about Leonardo in the work "Resurrection of Gods. Leonardo da Vinci" by Dmitry Merezhkovsky. This statement is based on comparative identification of community of plot, perspective and images. Opposition of Christianity and Paganisms (apostasy), Man and art (genuine art vs. fake one), society mechanisation problem, human consciousness bifurcation and search of spiritual synthesis are central in the novels by E. T. A. Hoffman and Dmitry Merezhkovsky. A number of E. T. A. Hoffman images (Leonardo da Vinci, the artist's apprentice, the White deviless, the dual portrait) are realised in the novel by Dmitry Merezhkovsky.
