The article analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy and labor market in the world and in the Russian Federation. The main issue is the impact of the crisis on the structure of the economy and the demand for labor in the context of types of employment and professional qualification groups of workers. The relevance of the topic and the novelty of the paper is due to the fact that the article examines the changes that have occurred in the labor market and in the employment sector in connection with the 2020 crisis. The practical significance lies in the development of the logic of the analysis of the crisis phenomena in the labor market and contains recommendations for improving statistical monitoring of unemployment. The article aims to study the sectoral and professional structure of employment in order to consider the ongoing changes in the analysis and forecast of the labor market for 2021. The article substantiates the relationship between the policy of forced restrictions of economic activity and unemployment, as well as structural changes in the labor market, including the development of distance employment and the growth in demand for professions related to the development of the Internet, communications and liaison.
