The article analyzes the existing methods of the staff competence assessment and identifies their advantages and disadvantages, describes the peculiarities of their application in making an assessment of the academic staff competence. The ways of an improved evaluation of the academic staff performance in the higher educational establishments are determined based on the rating system that will take into account all the participants’ grades in the educational process, in particular, those of the stakeholders.
