Poza Honda dam is built on the top of the Portoviejo River in the province of Manabí, Ecuador. It is located 30 kilometers from the city of the same name and is the main source of water supply of the cantons: Portoviejo, Santa Ana and Rocafuerte. To supply these populations water is processed in a water treatment plant, to present different types of sediments. In the paper the results of the chemical analysis of water taken recently in the catchment of the reservoir at different levels of depth, where the assessment of these results was shown, which highlights the importance of establishing an appropriate monitoring model in order to monitor and improve the environmental situation of the reservoir and the Portoviejo river basin.  Index Terms— chemical analysis of water, pollution, preservation of human health.
