In the modern world, globalization leads to the active interaction of representatives of different cultures, however, there are questions of how this is reflected in the well-being level of society. This article raises the problem of the cultural heterogeneity consequences as a result of globalization. For the analysis, religion was chosen as a cultural feature (criterion of heterogeneity), which is an institution of norms and values of the population, as well as a reflection of the historical past of population. The object of research is the regions of Russia. The analysis used data from the Atlas of Religions and Nationalities of Russia «Arena» (Non-profit research based consulting "Sreda") and the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs. The study analyzed the influence of religious heterogeneity on the level of scientific activity of organizations in the regions of the Russian Federation. The negative influence of religious heterogeneity on the level of research activity of organizations in the regions of the Russian Federation was revealed. It is shown that the impact is not direct. Religious heterogeneity is associated with the level of migration of young scientists, which, in turn, has an impact on the activities of scientific organizations in the country.
