The article discusses the role and place of cooperation in food harvesting in Siberia in the initial period of “war communism”. A strong stereotype is in the historiacal literature formed that harvesting in Siberia was carried out exclusively in the form of the razvjorstka, before the introduction of which grain wes collected at the procurement centers with “samotjok”. On the basis of the analysis of scientific sources of various departmental origin and materials of the periodical press, the author shows that “samotjok” is one of the propaganda cliches of that era. In reality, harvesting was carried out in three ways – the purchase of grain from the peasants, with the help of the procurement apparatus of the Red Army and through cooperation. The scientific novelty of the article is to reveal the role and place of cooperation in the process of harvesting, as well as to identify the reasons why the activity of cooperation was curtailed and prodrazvjorstka was introduced.
