Background: Grayscale ultrasound is important radiology modality in detecting the morphological characteristics of a palpable breast mass, because it has advantages in distinguishing solid and cystic mass of benign and malignant origin, small lesions with dense fbroglanduler network, especially young women aged < 35 years old. To detect the morphological characteristics of a palpable breast mass, grayscale ultrasound refers to BIRADS 2013. The gold standard diagnosis using core biopsy is superior than FNAB, but until now FNAB is still performed a lot, because in addition to being minimally invasive methods of quickly diagnosing with minimal complications, it is also widely available at health facilities. Objectives: To fnd relationship between the morphological characteristics of a palpable breast mass using grayscale ultrasound and FNAB results in Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital.Material and Method: this is an analytic observational study with cross-sectional approach. The subjects were women with palpable breast mass who had grayscale ultrasound with reference to BIRADS and undergone FNAB in 2013 and met the inclusion criteria. Sampling was conducted prospectively and performed in the Department of Radiology / Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital Bandung from May 2016 to August 2016. The data analysis was done using univariable and bivariable chi-square test. Results: Study subjects were 30 female patients, the youngest aged 35 years old and the oldest aged 60 years. A total of eight suspicious palpable breast mass malignancies (BIRADS 4), consisting of six (75.0%) benign and two (25.0%) malignant masses. A total of 22 palpable breast mass suggestive of malignancy (BIRADS 5), consisting of 21 (95.5%) malignant and 1 (4.5%) benign lesion. Conclusion: There is a signifcant relationship between the morphological characteristics of a palpable breast mass using grayscale ultrasound with FNAB in Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital with p <0.001 (?0,05).
