Questions regarding the water havea specific position in the context of environmental challenges. The possibility of escalatingtensions between individuals, social groups,states or groups of states may even be higherfor water-related issues than with otherenvironmental problems. According to manypessimistic forecasts in the course of the 21stcentury water conflicts occur, which can havetragic consequences. The aim of theresearch is to identify other potential riskareas where the water situation will mostlikely worsen, which may result in a threat ofviolence, conflict.
