Circumvallate placenta, a morphologicalabnormality of placenta can be defined as a thickenedplacenta with a raised margin in an annular shape and it isthought to be the result of a membranous fold of chorionand amnion. A 23-year-old primigravida mother waspresented with grossly reduced liquor due to pretermpremature rupture of membranes at 32 weeks of gestation. The preterm baby was delivered by emergency caesareansection (category-2 caesarean section). A thorough grossexamination of the placenta was done and a thickenedcircumvallate placenta was noted with a firm whiteannular margin and normal umbilical cord insertion.Histopathological findings were consistent with thediagnosis of circumvallate placenta. Routine grossexamination of placenta is of immense important for betterunderstanding of pregnancy complications due toplacental abnormalities like circumvallate placenta.
