The Partition of India was arguablyone of the largest Two-way migration in human history. There are several sets of census data and other verifiedsources which strengthens the argument that the exchangeof population since 1947 has caused immense harm to theintegrity of the Indian Sub-continent which is beyondrepair. The paper discusses a brief history and thesequence of events that lead to the allotment of three out offour tehsil’s of Gurdaspur district to the Indian dominiondespite having a majority Muslim population. Theimportance of Gurdaspur was remarkable for both thedominions and the contested area was earlier assumed tobe allotted to Pakistan while a later amendment made it apart of India, which opened routes for a direct pathway toKashmir. It also discusses the Radcliffe Commission thatwas appointed to demarcate the two new separatedominions, India, and Pakistan in just eight weeks
