Heterologous production of terpenoidsfrom plants which are of medicinal and industrialinterests is getting much attention. For this purposesaccharomyces cerevisiae is the most commonlyused host but the yield of terpenoids is much lower. The main aim of this review is to study theterpenoid pathways of saccharomyces cerevisiae, effect of respective host metabolism as well as tostudy the effect of different carbon sources in silicoby means of elementary mode analysis. Theproduction and yield of IPP was main focus pointin order to find out the novel metabolic engineeringstrategy for increasing production of terpenoids. With glucose acting as a substrate, MVA pathwayhas low potential to produce terpenoids ascompared to DXP pathway if we considerformation of precursor. Moreover the carbonsource also has impact on yield with nonfermentable source providing more biomass. Atlast several knock out methodologies were beingemployed which identified minimal cuts sets forenhanced growth of terpenoids.
