Face is the representation of one’sidentity. So, we have prepared an automatedstudent attendance system based on facerecognition. This system is very useful in daily lifeapplications especially in security and surveillancesystems. The security systems on airport uses facerecognition to identify suspects and the CBI(CentralBureau of Investigation) and FBI (FederalBureau of Investigation) uses face recognition forcriminal investigations. In our project also videoframing is performed by accessing the camerathrough user friendly interface. The Face isdetected and segmented from the video frame byusing HOG (Histogram of Oriented Gradient)algorithm. In the first step or we can say in pre-processingstage, scaling of the size of the image is performedin order to prevent or reduce the loss ofinformation. Then in next step, the ‘median filtering’ is appliedto remove noise followed by the conversion ofcolour imageinto grayscale image. After that, CLAHE (Contrast Limited AdaptiveHistogram Equation) is applied on the images toenhance the contrastof the image.Overall, we have created a program in python thattake theimage from the database and make all thenecessary conversions for recognition and thenverifies the image inthe videos or in the real timeby accessing the camera through user friendlyinterface. After the successful matchis found thenit marks the name and time of the person inattendance sheet.
