Traditional quality management andmonitoring has been shown to be unsuccessful. Today, emerging companies are vying for more value to theconsumer in order to ensure their maximum success andsustainability. Many businesses want to ensure that theirgoods and services are of high quality in order to attractcustomers. The current situation is implementing qualityengineering solutions in industries. Quality engineering isthe method of evaluating, handling, designing, andmaintaining various systems in compliance with highstandards. This method ensures that each stage of theproduct development cycle is subjected to a thoroughinspection by quality engineers, reducing possible losses byeliminating defects from the start. Furthermore, highquality maintenance is important and should be madeavailable for a long time after the product has beenshipped.Customers' preferences are shifting significantly, necessitating improvements in design and productiontechnology, which is becoming increasingly critical insatisfying individual customers. This necessitates payingparticular attention to quality engineering. The paper starts with a review on quality emphasisover the last 37 years, quality concepts, and quality modelevolution followed by i) a contrast of quality managementand quality engineering, ii) developments in qualityengineering tools and techniques, such as statisticalprocess control (SPC), design of experiment (DoE),Taguchi processes, and quality function (QFD). This paperalso looks at quality engineering-related problems. Thereare brief reviews of recent developments in well-knownquality tools, such as statistical process control, qualityfunction deployment, and design of experiment. The aim ofthis paper is to place quality engineering in context andemphasise its significance, as well as to present some issuesat the frontiers of quality engineering.
