The system “LabVIEW based ECG signalacquisition and analysis” is developed to assist patientsand doctors in health care. An arrhythmia is anabnormal heart rhythm. It may be so brief that itdoesn’t change the overall heart rate, but it can causethe heart rate to be too slow or too fast. Whenarrhythmias are severe or last long enough, the heartmay not be able to pump enough blood to the body. Thiscan cause the patient to feel tired, lightheaded or maymake him pass out. It can also cause death. Beforetreatment, it’s important for the doctor to know wherean arrhythmia starts in the heart and whether it’sabnormal. An electrocardiogram (ECG) is often used todiagnose arrhythmias. “LabVIEW based ECG signalacquisition and analysis” is meant to acquire ECGsignals from the patient and analyze it to detect andclassify its anomalies and abnormalities. This is achievedby extracting amplitudes and durations of parameters ofECG waveform such as P wave, QRS complex, RRinterval, and PR durations. These parameters arecompared with the normal values to determine the typeof abnormality- Tachycardia or Bradycardia. Thedatabase of the patient is maintained for further use bythe doctor. The objective of LabVIEW based ECG signalacquisition and analysis aims at acquiring and analyzingtemporal parameters of ECG signal such as P wave,QRS complex, RR interval, PR durations andamplitudes of the P wave, ST wave, identification ofcardiac arrhythmia using LabVIEW. The research workhas helped us to explore various features of LabVIEWlike signal processing and automated databasegeneration.
