ABC is a retail textile shop is situated in a suburbarea of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. They have a routine ofdaily sales and weekly purchases and have a monthlyexpense of utility and salary payment for workers whowork on sales. For the moment they are running a filebased system like Excel sheet for inventory keeping,purchasing, maintaining vendors’ details and workersdetails, daily sales and profit margins including numberof items on each variety with a custom variety code. Sincethere is poor network coverage in the area, they areunable to use an open source online inventory system. So,it was decided to implement an inventory managementsystem for them. By developing, “Procurement andInventory Management System”, they can reduce theirtime for entering, updating, calculating and retrievingdata. Not only that but also, they can avoid dataredundancy, data consistency, high data security,privacy, and easy recovery. They can enter memos orspecial notes and they can filter and search related data.And, they can export grid view data to Microsoft excelsheet. The system built has been able to have a positiveand beneficial impact on both organization andconsumers. To develop the system, it was used agilesoftware development methodology, the SQL Server 2014was used as the database, Visual Studio 2010 as developertools and C# is used as the programming language. Theresults of this study to get a system that has beendeveloped that can make transactions which generatetransaction reports, and which update database andremind notes for consumers thus greatly supporting theactivities at the ABC shop.
