Extrusion process is one of the most flexible andimportant operation for mass production of plasticproduct. In extrusion process, screw design is veryimportant as it is largely affects the productivity andquality. The technical knowhow in these mills is based onexperience of the employee thus processes are designed bytrial and error without applying professional engineeringdesign of the process. In this study focus was applied onanalyzing and modeling the compression zone, which isconsidered to be the most important and complicated zonein the screw. An equation was derived so to determine thelength of the compression zone that is suitable to producepolypropylene fibers
