The article focuses on studying the stories and remembrances (recollections) about the settlement history of White Sea Karelia and on their possible interpretations. The aim is to develop a new perspective on the settlement history of the region. For this purpose, the method of local history reconstruction is applied in exploring the data consisting of people’s recollections recorded in the 1800s, 1900s and 2000s. Stories of a certain village or locality represent the level of micro-history, but taken together they enable a comprehensive understanding of the settlement history of the entire region under investigation.
