Word class is one of the important aspects of morphology in the Malay grammar. In particular, noun is a word class that should be looked into. Through the concept of MBBT (Humans, Things, Animals and Place), nouns were taught using the explicit method proposed by Rosenshine (1986). The research was carried out to measure the effectiveness of the teachings of nouns using the MBBT concept. This concept is able to build pupils’ knowledge to identify nouns based on a given picture and texts. The research sample consists of 23 Primary 2 pupils who are from a middle progressive class. The research findings show that 100% of the pupils were able to recognise the attributes of nouns, categorize nouns based on MBBT concept and identify nouns based on a given picture and texts. Through explicit teaching, pupils were able to identify nouns more effectively in a given task.
