The Ministry of Defence has always been involved in terminology. However, terminology has not been collected in any termbase in the past years; it has only been collected in internal databases used as a basis for dictionary production. Having in mind the desire to establish systematic terminology work and subsequently systemize it, the linguists at the ministry have devised a terminology management model. The paper presents the strengths and weaknesses of the model, and the challenges of terminological work. It compares the model to foreign terminology practices within NATO and cites examples of good practices of foreign armed forces, thus proposing improvements to the Slovenian terminology management system and outlines the way ahead.Key wordsTerm, terminology, terminology management model, working group, termbase
